What is Birch Triterpenes Topical?

Birch triterpenes topical (for the skin) is used to treat wounds caused by dystrophic and junctional epidermolysis bullosa (a group of inherited skin disorders) in adults and children at least 6 months old.

Birch triterpenes topical may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.

Warnings

You should not use birch triterpenes topical if you are allergic to it.

Tell your doctor if you have or ever had health problems or use other medications.

It is not known if birch triterpenes topical will harm an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant.

Ask a doctor if it is safe to breastfeed while using this medicine.

How should I use Birch Triterpenes Topical

Use Birch Triterpenes Topical (Topical) exactly as directed on the label, or as prescribed by your doctor. Do not use in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended.

Follow all directions on your prescription label and read all medication guides or instruction sheets. Use the medicine exactly as directed.

Do not take by mouth. Topical medicine is for use only on the skin.

Wash your hands before and after applying this medicine. Clean the skin area to be treated.

Apply a layer of birch triterpenes topical to the affected area. Avoid rubbing the medicine into the skin. Cover the wound with a clean, non-stick bandage.

You may also apply a thick layer of birch triterpenes topical directly into the bandage, making sure that the medicine is in contact with the wound.

Apply birch triterpenes topical at each dressing change until the wound has completely healed.

Apply this medicine right away, once the tube has been opened. Throw away the tube after one use, even if there is still medicine left inside.

Read and carefully follow the instructions provided with this medicine about how to safely dispose of any unused portion.

Store this medicine at room temperature. Do not freeze.

What should I do if I missed a dose of Birch Triterpenes Topical (Topical)?

Apply the medicine as soon as you can, but skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next dose. Do not apply two doses at one time.

Birch Triterpenes Topical side effects

Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction: hives, difficult breathing, swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Stop using this medicine and call your doctor at once if you have:

  • signs of wound infection--red, warm, swollen, or painful wound, or pus.

Also call your doctor at once if you have:

  • red itchy bumps (hives), skin rash, redness, or itching.

Common side effects may include:

  • pain and itchy skin.

This is not a complete list of side effects and others may occur. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. You may report side effects to FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088.

Avoid getting this medicine in your eyes, mouth, vagina, or anal area. Rinse with water if accidental exposure occurs.
