Side Effects of This Medicine

Serious side effects of Alomide

Along with its needed effects, lodoxamide ophthalmic (the active ingredient contained in Alomide) may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor as soon as possible if any of the following side effects occur while taking lodoxamide ophthalmic:

Less common

  • Blurred vision
  • feeling of something in eye, itching, discomfort, redness, tearing or discharge, or other eye or eyelid irritation (not present before you started using this medicine or becoming worse while you are using this medicine)

Rare

  • Dizziness
  • mucus from eye, eye pain, or swelling of eye or eyelid (not present before you started using this medicine or becoming worse while you are using this medicine)
  • headache
  • sensitivity of eyes to light
  • skin rash

Other side effects of Alomide

Some side effects of lodoxamide ophthalmic may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects.

Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  • Burning or stinging (when medicine is applied)

Less common or rare

  • Aching eyes
  • crusting in corner of eye or on eyelid
  • drowsiness or sleepiness
  • dryness of nose or eyes
  • feeling of heat in eye
  • heat sensation on body
  • nausea or stomach discomfort
  • scales on eyelid or eyelash
  • sneezing
  • sticky feeling of eyes
  • tired eyes

For Healthcare Professionals

Applies to lodoxamide ophthalmic: ophthalmic solution.

General

The most common ocular side effects reported were a burning sensation, stinging or discomfort following instillation.[Ref]

Ocular

Very common (10% or more): Discomfort upon instillation (15%)

Common (1% to 10%): Blurred vision, dryness, pruritus, increased lacrimation, hyperemia

Uncommon (0.1% to 1%): Eye pain, edema, asthenopia, corneal deposits, abnormal or foreign body sensation in eye, discharge, irritation, eyelid exfoliation, lid margin crusting

Rare (0.01% to 0.1%): Corneal erosion, scar, abrasion, epitheliopathy; anterior chamber cell, keratitis, blepharitis, allergy, visual impairment, eyelid edema, conjunctival disorder

Very rare: Fatigue, warming sensation, keratopathy, keratitis, blepharitis, sticky sensation, corneal abrasion[Ref]

Gastrointestinal

Uncommon (0.1% to 1%): Nausea

Rare (0.01% to 0.1%): Abdominal discomfort[Ref]

Nervous system

Common (1% to 10%): Headache

Uncommon (0.1% to 1%): Dizziness

Rare (0.01% to 0.1%): Somnolence, dysgeusia[Ref]

Respiratory

Rare (0.01% to 0.1%): Nasal dryness, sneezing[Ref]

Cardiovascular

Frequency not reported: Palpitations[Ref]

Other

Uncommon (0.1% to 1%): Feeling hot[Ref]
