Usual Adult Dose for Anemia Associated with Chronic Renal Failure

3 to 4 tablets per day with doses spread throughout the day
Do not administer more than 3 tablets at any one time and separate additional tablets by at least 3 hours.

1 to 2 tablets per day

Precautions

Oral heme iron polypeptide is a proteolytic digest of bovine hemoglobin. Therefore, usage is contraindicated in patients with an allergy to meat products. In addition, patients who object to consumption of animal products, Hindus, and Jehovah's Witnesses should be notified of the products origin.

Dialysis

Iron supplementation is routinely provided to peritoneal dialysis and hemodialysis patients for prevention or treatment of anemia associated with chronic renal failure.

Other Comments

Accidental overdose of iron-containing products is a leading cause of fatal poisoning in children under 6 years. Keep this product out of reach of children. In case of accidental overdose, call a physician or poison control center immediately.

May be administered with meals or on an empty stomach.
