Drug Class: Glycoprotein platelet inhibitors
Usual Adult Dose for Acute Coronary Syndrome
Initial dose: 25 mcg/kg IV within 5 minutes
Maintenance dose: 0.15 mcg/kg/min IV infusion for up to 18 hours
Use: To reduce the rate of thrombotic cardiovascular events in patients with non-ST elevation acute coronary syndrome (NSTE-ACS).

IV compatibility:
- Do not administer through the same IV line as diazepam.
- Do not add other drugs or remove solution directly with a syringe.
- Do not use plastic containers in series connections.
Monitoring:
- Hematologic: Platelet counts, hemoglobin, and hematocrit prior to treatment, 6 hours after the initial dose, and daily thereafter; platelet counts to exclude pseudothrombocytopenia if platelets decrease to less than 90,000 cells/mm3; activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT) prior to treatment and regularly thereafter to determine the anticoagulant effects of heparin.
Patient advice: Advise patients to report any signs of bleeding or bruising to their healthcare provider.
