Usual Adult Dose for Nausea/Vomiting

Oral: 300 mg orally 3 or 4 times a day
IM Injection: 200 mg IM 3 or 4 times a day

Comment: Dosage should be adjusted according to the therapy indication, symptom severity, and patient response.

Uses:

  • Treatment of postoperative nausea and vomiting
  • Treatment of nausea associated with gastroenteritis

Renal Dose Adjustments

Renal dysfunction (CrCl 70 mL/min/1.73 m2 or less): Dosing modifications such as reducing the total dose at each dosing or increasing the dosing interval should be considered; Caution is recommended.

Liver Dose Adjustments

Oral Formulations:

  • Patients with signs/symptoms suggested of liver dysfunction: Avoid use
  • Patients who develop liver dysfunction during treatment: Discontinue use.

IM Injection Formulations: Data not available

Dose Adjustments

Geriatric patients: The daily dosage should be reduced by increasing the dosing interval, then adjust as needed based on therapeutic response and tolerability. Renal function should be monitored.

Discontinue treatment at the first sign of skin sensitization and if any of the following occur: blood dyscrasias, blurred vision, coma, convulsions, depression, diarrhea, disorientation, dizziness, drowsiness, headache, jaundice, muscle cramps, and opisthotonos.

Precautions

Safety and efficacy have not been established in patients younger than 18 years.
This drug is not recommended for use in children.

Administration Advice:

  • IM administration may cause pain, stinging, burning, redness, and swelling at the injection site; such effects may be minimized by deep injection into the upper outer quadrant of the gluteal region and by avoiding the escape of solution along the route.
  • The injectable form is intended for IM administration only; IV use is not recommended.

Storage Requirements:
  • This drug should be stored between 20 to 25 degrees Celsius (68 to 77 Fahrenheit) and protected from light.

General:
  • Limitation of use: This drug is not recommended for use in pediatric patients.

Patient advice:
  • This drug may cause drowsiness; patients should be told to avoid driving and potentially dangerous activities such as operating machinery until they know how this drug affects them.
  • Patients should be instructed to avoid alcohol and other drugs that cause central nervous system depression during treatment.
