What is Capivasertib?
Capivasertib is used in combination with fulvestrant to treat hormone-related breast cancer.
Capivasertib is used when the cancer has progressed, spread to other parts of the body (metastatic), or after other treatments did not work or stopped working.
Your doctor will make sure you have the correct tumor type to be treated with capivasertib.
Capivasertib may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.
Warnings
You should not use capivasertib if you are allergic to it.
Tell your doctor if you have or ever had:
- high blood sugar levels, type 1 or type 2 diabetes, if you use insulin;
- rash or other skin problems; or
- liver disease.
Capivasertib can harm an unborn baby if the mother or the father is using this medicine.
- If you are a woman, you will need a pregnancy test to make sure you are not pregnant. Use birth control while using this medicine and for at least 1 month after your last dose.
- If you are a man, use birth control if your sex partner is able to get pregnant. Keep using birth control for at least 4 months after your last dose.
- Tell your doctor right away if a pregnancy occurs.
Do not breastfeed while using this medicine.
How should I use Capivasertib
Use Capivasertib (Oral) exactly as directed on the label, or as prescribed by your doctor. Do not use in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended.
Follow all directions on your prescription label and read all medication guides or instruction sheets. Use the medicine exactly as directed.
Your doctor will perform tests to make sure capivasertib is the right treatment for you.
Capivasertib is taken in a 7-day treatment cycle. You will take the medicine only on certain days. Your doctor will determine your treatment cycle.
Capivasertib is usually taken twice per day (about 12 hours apart) with or without food. Take the medicine at the same time each day.
Swallow the tablet whole with water and do not crush, chew, or break it. Do not use a tablet that is damaged in any way.
Your blood sugar and skin will need to be checked on a regular basis, and you may need other medical tests. Your cancer treatments may be delayed based on the results.
Call your doctor if you have severe diarrhea. Drink plenty of liquids while you are taking capivasertib.
You may be given other medications for your treatment or to help prevent serious side effects. Keep taking these medicines for as long as your doctor has prescribed.
If you vomit shortly after taking capivasertib, do not take another dose. Take your next dose as scheduled.
Keep the medicine in the original container and store at room temperature away from moisture and heat.
Use the medicine as soon as you can, but skip the missed dose if you are more than 4 hours late for the dose. Do not use two doses at one time.
Capivasertib side effects
Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction: hives, difficult breathing, swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Seek medical treatment if you have a serious drug reaction that can affect many parts of your body. Symptoms may include skin rash, fever, swollen glands, muscle aches, severe weakness, unusual bruising, or yellowing of your skin or eyes.
Call your doctor at once if you have:
- redness, new or worsening rash, or blisters on the palms of your hands or the soles of your feet;
- severe stomach pain, diarrhea that is watery or bloody;
- high blood sugar--increased urination, dry mouth, fruity breath odor, nausea, vomiting, appetite or weight changes; or
- dehydration--dizziness, confusion, feeling very thirsty, less urination.
Your cancer treatments may change, be delayed or permanently discontinued if you have certain side effects.
Common side effects may include:
- nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea;
- abnormal blood tests;
- blisters or ulcers in your mouth, red or swollen gums, trouble swallowing; or
- tiredness.

What other drugs will affect Capivasertib?
Grapefruit may interact with capivasertib and cause side effects. Avoid consuming grapefruit products.
