What is Durlobactam-Sulbactam?
Durlobactam-sulbactam is a combination antibiotic used in adults to treat pneumonia (a lung infection) that started during a hospital stay or while on a ventilator.
Your doctor will make sure the infection is caused by a certain type of bacteria to be treated with durlobactam and sulbactam.
Durlobactam-sulbactam may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.
Warnings
You should not use durlobactam-sulbactam if you are allergic to it, or if you have an allergy to similar antibiotics such as meropenem, cephalexin, cefdinir, amoxicillin, ampicillin, penicillin, and others.
Tell your doctor if you have or have ever had:
- any other allergies;
- diarrhea caused by an infection or antibiotics; or
- kidney disease (or if you are on dialysis).
Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Not approved for use by anyone younger than 18 years old.
How should I use Durlobactam-Sulbactam
Use Durlobactam-Sulbactam (Intravenous) exactly as directed on the label, or as prescribed by your doctor. Do not use in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended.
Durlobactam-sulbactam is given as an infusion into a vein. A healthcare provider will give you this injection.
Keep using this medicine even if your symptoms quickly improve. Skipping doses could make your infection resistant to medication. Durlobactam-sulbactam will not treat a viral infection (flu or a common cold).
Your doctor will determine how long to treat you with this medicine.
Your kidney function may need to be checked often.
Antibiotic medicines can cause diarrhea. Tell your medical caregivers if you have diarrhea that is watery or bloody.
In a medical setting you are not likely to miss a dose.
Durlobactam-Sulbactam side effects
Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction: hives, difficult breathing, swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Tell your medical caregivers right away if you have:
- severe stomach pain, diarrhea that is watery or bloody (even if it occurs months after your last dose).
Common side effects may include:
- low blood levels of potassium;
- diarrhea;
- abnormal liver function tests; or
- anemia (low red blood cells).
