What is Motixafortide?
Motixafortide is used in combination with another medicine to help increase the number of stem cells for collection before a stem cell transplant in adults with multiple myeloma.
Motixafortide may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.
Warnings
You should not use motixafortide if you are allergic to it.
Motixafortide should not be used in people with leukemia.
Tell your doctor if you have or have ever had:
- blood or bone marrow cancer.
You will need to take a pregnancy test before treatment with motixafortide.
May harm an unborn baby. Do not use if you are pregnant. Use effective birth control while using motixafortide and for at least 8 days after your last dose. Tell your doctor if you become pregnant.
Do not breastfeed while using this medicine, and for at least 8 days after your last dose.
How should I use Motixafortide
Use Motixafortide (Subcutaneous) exactly as directed on the label, or as prescribed by your doctor. Do not use in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended.
Follow all directions on your prescription label and read all medication guides or instruction sheets.
Motixafortide is injected under the skin by a healthcare professional.
Doses are based on weight. Your dose may change if you gain or lose weight.
You may be given other medications to help prevent serious side effects or allergic reaction. Keep taking these medicines for as long as your doctor has prescribed.
You will be watched for one hour to make sure you do not have an allergic reaction.
Your blood will need to be tested often.
Follow all storage instructions provided with motixafortide. Your pharmacist can provide more information about how to store this medicine.
Call your doctor for instructions if you miss an appointment for your motixafortide injection.
Motixafortide side effects
Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction: hives, difficult breathing, swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Call your doctor at once if you have:
- chills;
- vomiting, nausea;
- itching, rash; or
- flushing (sudden warmth, redness, or tingly feeling).
Common side effects may include:
- pain, bruising, swelling, redness, itching, or irritation where the medicine was injected;
- flushing; or
- back pain.
