Key Points
You should inject your Soliqua (insulin glargine and lixisenatide) dose within one hour before your first meal of the day, which for most people will be in the morning before breakfast. If you need to use Soliqua at night, speak with your doctor, who may be able to help you adjust your medication schedule.
Soliqua (insulin glargine and lixisenatide) should be used once a day, at the same time every day. Your doctor will tell you how much Soliqua you need to use each day and can advise you on the best time to use it.
Soliqua contains two medicines: a long-acting insulin glargine and lixisenatide, a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) agonist. These medications are used with diet and exercise to help control blood sugar (glucose) in adults with type 2 diabetes.
How is Soliqua given?
Soliqua is given as a subcutaneous injection under the skin. It comes as an autoinjector pen you can use at home. Your doctor, nurse or pharmacist can teach you how to use your pen.
- Your Soliqua 100/33 pen has a once-daily dose range of 15 to 60 units.
- Each unit dialed contains 1 unit of insulin glargine and 0.33 micrograms (mcg) of lixisenatide.
- The maximum dose of Soliqua 100/33 is 60 units daily (60 units insulin glargine/20 mcg lixisenatide). The minimum dose delivered is 15 units daily.
- When you get your medicine, each carton will hold 5 pens. Each pen should last from 5 to 20 days, depending upon your prescribed dose.
Be sure to follow your doctor’s instruction and take Soliqua exactly as prescribed. Your doctor will prescribe the dose that is right for you.
What if I miss my Soliqua dose?
If you miss your dose, take your next scheduled dose at your regular time. Do not double up on your dose or take an extra dose to make up for the dose you missed.
