Can you take antibiotics with Mavyret?
When you are taking Mavyret and need to take antibiotics you need to check:
- if there is an interaction between the antibiotic and Mavyret
- if there is an interaction between the antibiotic and liver disease or liver dysfunction.
If the antibiotic does not have a drug interaction with Mavyret AND it does not have a liver disease or liver impairment interaction it should be safe to take (as long as your doctor has checked for interactions with any other medicine you take and other health issues you have).
Mavyret is used to treat hepatitis C which is a viral infection that mainly affects the liver. When you have hepatitis C over time it can cause the liver to become damaged and not function properly. Some medicines, including some antibiotics, can have a bad effect on your body if your liver is impaired or damaged. This is known as a drug disease interaction. When you have hepatitis, it is important before you take any medicines, that you check the new medicine will not cause problems due to your liver issues.
