You may shower in the morning, but it is not required. Monistat 3-day and Monistat 7-day topical yeast infection treatments (miconazole cream, ointment, ovule or suppositories) are inserted into the vagina before bedtime. Lie down as soon as possible after inserting the product to help reduce leakage. During the day, you may want to wear deodorant-free pads or panty shields to protect your clothing as needed.

Follow the individual instructions for use contained in the product you select.

Does Monistat come as a one-day treatment?

Yes, there are two Monistat options for single day treatment:

1. The Monistat 1-Day Treatment Combination Pack (with a single ovule insert) is designed to adhere to the vaginal walls and stay in place. It can be used anytime of the day or night. It is a higher strength product that contains 1,200 mg of miconazole in a vaginal insert. The Monistat 1-Day Treatment may be a better option if:

• You don’t want to wait until bedtime to begin treatment
• You exercise frequently or are very active
• You are traveling and prefer not to treat for multiple days

2. The Monistat 1-Day Treatment Prefilled Ointment contains tioconazole 300 mg, a different antifungal than found in the other Monistat products. It is also a one day treatment but is inserted at bedtime for one night. It may be useful if you are sensitive to the effects of miconazole or prefer a one time overnight treatment.

If you use the 1-day products, you may still want to wear a minipad or panty liner to protect your clothing, if needed.

The Monistat combination packs also contain an external miconazole 2% itch relief cream which is applied on the skin outside the vagina (vulva). Use the external cream twice a day (in the morning and at bedtime), for up to 7 days, as needed.

Stop use and contact your healthcare provider if:

• Your symptoms do not get better in 3 days or your symptoms last more than 7 days. This product may not be working or you may have a more serious medical condition.
• You get a rash or hives, abdominal pain, fever, chills, nausea, vomiting, or a foul-smelling vaginal discharge.

Do not use an over-the-counter (OTC) vaginal fungal treatment like Monistat if this is the first time you have symptoms of vaginal discharge, itching, burning or discomfort. See your healthcare professional to find out the cause of your symptoms.

Can I use Monistat if I am having my period?

Yes, Monistat can be used during your menstrual period and will not change the effectiveness of the product. Complete your full Monistat course even if your period begins during treatment.

Do not use tampons during Monistat treatment because tampons may remove some of the medicine from the vagina. Use deodorant-free sanitary napkins or pads instead and change them often.

Also do not use douches, spermicides, condoms or diaphragms until after you have completed the treatment and your symptoms are gone.

Can I have sex while using Monistat?

Do not have vaginal intercourse while using Monistat. In addition, condoms and diaphragms may become damaged and fail to prevent pregnancy or sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). You can resume having sex 7 days after starting treatment (with any product) if your symptoms are gone.
