How long can Xolair stay out of the fridge?

Answers by TheMediTary.Com - Last updated: 13-Jul-2023

The Xolair single-use prefilled syringe can be removed and put back in the refrigerator for a total combined time not to exceed 2 days. When in the refrigerator it should be stored at 2°C to 8°C (36°F to 46°F) in the original carton.

Protect the syringe from direct sunlight and do not freeze. Do not use the Xolair syringe if it is exposed to temperatures above 25°C (77°F) or if frozen. Do not use beyond the expiration date stamped on the carton. Throw it away in a sharps disposal container.

Xolair (omalizumab) is approved to treat:

  • moderate-to-severe persistent asthma in patients 6 years of age and older. It is not a rescue medicine for treating an asthma attack.
  • chronic idiopathic urticaria (long-lasting hives) in adults and adolescents 12 years of age and older.
  • nasal polyps in adult patients 18 years of age and older.

Can I give the Xolair shot to myself?

When first starting treatment, you will receive the Xolair (omalizumab) injection from your doctor in a healthcare setting like a clinic or hospital. This allows your doctor to monitor you for side effects like a severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis). Anaphylaxis is a life-threatening condition that can lead to death, but your doctor is equipped to treat this if needed.

  • If your doctor agrees, you or your caregiver can be taught how to prepare and inject Xolair. You will receive training on how to inject this medicine from your healthcare provider.
  • For children aged 12 years and older, Xolair may be self-injected with adult supervision.
  • For children 6 to 11 years of age, Xolair should only be injected by a caregiver.

Xolair is given by one or more subcutaneous (under the skin) injections every 2 or 4 weeks. Your doctor will determine your exact dose. After training, you can follow the detailed “Instructions for Use” that comes with your medicine to administer at home. If you have questions, contact your healthcare provider.

This is not all the information you need to know about Xolair for safe and effective use and does not take the place of your doctor’s directions. Review the full product information and discuss this information and any questions you have with your doctor or other health care provider.
