How much does Jatenzo cost?

Answers by TheMediTary.Com - Last updated: 13-Jul-2023

Jatenzo (generic name: testosterone undecanoate) is an expensive medication that costs from $850 to over $1,000 per month for a supply of 60 capsules, if you are paying cash and using an online discount. Prices can vary based on pharmacy, location, and source of coupon.

However, many patients will not pay these high prices. Your insurance may cover a portion of the cost of Jatenzo and you may have a copay. Contact your insurance company to determine prescription coverage and cost.

In addition, Clarus Therapeutics, the manufacturer of Jatenzo offers a Savings Card through the Jatenzo Go program. Eligible patients with private, commercial insurance may be able to pay as little as $0 for their prescription with this card. The Jatenzo Go program offers a yearly benefit with a $2,000 maximum. These programs are not valid for patients with government-funded insurance such as Medicaid, Medicare or Tricare.

Your doctor may need to submit paperwork for insurance coverage and prior authorization allowing you to get this medication. Through the Jatenzo Go program, you may be able to get your first prescription free of charge. Call the Jatenzo Go program for more details at 1-844-269-2795.

What is Jatenzo?

Jatenzo is an oral testosterone replacement therapy given as a capsule twice per day for the treatment of low testosterone in hypogonadal men. Jatenzo is FDA-approved for men with genetic disorders like Klinefelter syndrome or tumors that have damaged the pituitary gland, not “age-related hypogonadism”, due to heart safety risks.

In a 4-month study of 166 men with hypogonadism, 87% of Jatenzo-treated men reached testosterone levels within the normal range, which was the main endpoint of the study.

Commonly reported side effects included:

  • headache
  • an increase in hematocrit (red blood cell count)
  • a decrease in high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (“good” cholesterol)
  • high blood pressure
  • nausea.

Jatenzo, a testosterone drug, also contains a boxed warning about increased risk of high blood pressure, heart attack, stroke and heart-related death. To learn more about Jatenzo side effects, visit here.

Bottom Line

Jatenzo is an expensive medication with costs that range from $850 to over $1,000 per month for a supply of 60 capsules, if you are paying cash. You may be able to lower your costs somewhat by using an online discount coupon.

Your insurance many cover some or all of the costs of Jatenzo, but if not, your doctor may need to submit a special request for you to get Jatenzo through your insurance.

If you have commercial insurance the manufacturer offers a savings program that may help you to save money on your Jatenzo prescription, or possibly get a free prescription. The maximum benefit on this program is $2,000 per year.

This is not all the information you need to know about Jatenzo for safe and effective use. Review the full Jatenzo information here, and discuss this information with your doctor or other health care provider.
