Oxtellar XR and Trileptal are two prescription medications that both contain the same active ingredient called oxcarbazepine. Both medications are taken by mouth and used in the treatment of partial-onset seizures, but they are made by different companies and come in different forms.

How it comes
  • Extended-release tablet (150 mg, 300 mg and 600 mg)
  • Film-coated tablet (150 mg, 300 mg and 600 mg)
  • Oral suspension (300 mg/5ml)
Uses
  • Patients 6 years of age or older - used to treat partial-onset seizures
  • Patients aged 2 to 16 years old - used as an add-on (adjuvant) therapy to treat partial-onset seizures
  • Patients aged 4 to 16 years old - used on its own (monotherapy) to treat partial-onset seizures
  • Adults - used alone or as an add-on therapy to treat partial-onset seizures
How to take Take once a day on an empty stomach. Swallow tablets whole, do not crush or chew. Take twice a day with or without food. Oral suspension can be mixed with a small amount of water or taken on its own.
Inactive ingredients
  • Extended-release tablet: colloidal silicon dioxide, hypromellose, yellow iron oxide (150 mg, 300 mg tablets only), red iron oxide (300 mg, 600 mg tablets only), black iron oxide (300 mg tablet only), magnesium stearate, metha crylic acid copolymer, microcrystalline cellulose, polyethylene glycol, polyvinyl alcohol, povidone, sodium lauryl sulfate, talc, and titanium dioxide.
  • Film-coated tablet: colloidal silicon dioxide, crospovidone, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, iron oxide, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, polyethylene glycol, talc, and titanium dioxide
  • Oral suspension: ascorbic acid; dispersible cellulose; ethanol; macrogol stearate; methyl parahydroxybenzoate; propylene glycol; propyl parahydroxybenzoate; purified water; sodium saccharin; sorbic acid; sorbitol; yellow-plum-lemon aroma.
