When is the best time to take Zetia?

Answers by TheMediTary.Com - Last updated: 13-Jul-2023

There is no best time to take Zetia, as it works exactly the same whether you take it in the morning, afternoon or evening.
Zetia is taken once a day, at the same time each day and it can be taken with or without food. It is important to choose a time to take it that is most convenient for you and when you are most likely to remember to take it.

Can I take Zetia at the same time as my other cholesterol medications?

Zetia is a cholesterol lowering medication and is sometimes prescribed to be taken with other cholesterol medications.
Zetia can be taken at the same time as these cholesterol lowering medications:

  • fenofibrate
  • atorvastatin
  • lovastatin
  • simvastatin
  • pravastatin
  • fluvastatin.

Zetia needs to be taken at a different time from these cholesterol lowering medications:

  • cholestyramine
  • colestipol
  • colesevelam.

If you have taken cholestyramine, colestipol, or colesevelam you need to wait at least 4 hours before taking Zetia.

If you have taken Zetia you need to wait 2 hours before taking cholestyramine, colestipol, or colesevelam.

Bottom line:
Zetia can be taken:

  • at anytime of the day
  • as long as it is the same time each day
  • with or without food.
