Ammonium lactate lotion has been assigned to pregnancy category C by the FDA. Animal reproduction studies have not been conducted. There are no controlled data in human pregnancy. Ammonium lactate lotion should be given during pregnancy when need has been clearly established.

Although lactic acid is a normal constituent of blood and tissues, it is not known to what extent this drug affects normal lactic acid levels in human milk
There are no data on the excretion of ammonium lactate into human milk. Because many drugs are excreted in human milk, caution is recommended when administering ammonium lactate lotion to a nursing woman.
