Nystatin topical cream, ointment, and powder have been assigned to pregnancy category C and nystatin vaginal tablets have been assigned to pregnancy category A by the FDA. Animal studies have not been reported. There are no controlled data in human pregnancy. Nystatin topical is only recommended for use during pregnancy when benefit outweighs risk.

There are no data on the excretion of nystatin into human milk. However, nystatin is not thought to be absorbed after application to skin or mucous membranes; therefore, significant milk levels are not expected. The manufacturer recommends that caution be used when administering nystatin topical to nursing women.
