Bejel is a spirochete bacterial infection spread by mouth to mouth contact or sharing contaminated eating and drinking utensils. Bejel presents first as nondescript oral lesions which resolve and are followed by lesions on the trunk, arms and legs. Later stages of bejel includes periostitis of leg bones and gumma lesions of the nose and soft palate.
