Chemotherapy toxicity is the unwanted toxic side effects of chemotherapy treatment. Chemotherapy is treatment with an anticancer drug which is administered to kill cancer cells.
The difficulty is that the chemotherapy can also also damage healthy cells which results in side effects. The side effects can be mild and treatable, or in the case of chemotherapy toxicity they can be severe with serious complications that may limit the amount of chemotherapy treatment.
Chemotherapy toxicity can be reduced by changing the treatment regime or by adding a cytoproctective agent which may help protect the body from some of the side effects.
