Chronic Idiopathic Constipation (CIC) is chronic constipation that has no identifiable cause, it does not fit the criteria of another gastrointestinal diagnosis and it is not the result of an underlying illness or side effect of medication. Symptoms of chronic constipation are ongoing and can include difficulty passing stools, hard or infrequent bowel movements, pain during bowel movement, or the inability to pass a bowel movement after straining.
