Prevention of Clostridium difficile infection recurrence is a therapy to reduce the re-emergence of this bacterial infection in the intestine. It can be used in conjunction with Clostridium difficile treatment or after the infection has been treated. The overgrowth of the bacteria Clostridium difficile infection produces toxins that results in symptoms of watery diarrhea, fever, nausea, and abdominal pain and tenderness. In severe cases complications may include dehydration, bowel perforation, toxic megacolon, colitis and pseudomembranous colitis.
