Thermal burns are burns caused by external heat sources.
External heat sources can include hot metals, scalding liquids, steam, and flames. Contact with the heat source raises the temperature of the skin and tissues to cause tissue cell death or charring.
Other types of burns include radiation burns, chemical burns, and electrical burns.
