Serious side effects of Dibucaine topical
Along with its needed effects, dibucaine topical may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

- fast or irregular heartbeat
- tightness in the chest
- unusual warmth or flushing of skin

General side effects have included methemoglobinemia, irregular heartbeats, seizures, coma, respiratory depression, and death. Children may be at an increased risk for adverse effects, as well as those who apply large amounts of anesthetics (or cover large areas of skin), leave these products on for prolonged periods, or cover with occlusive dressings after application.[Ref]
