Usual Adult Dose for Duodenal Ulcer
Elixir: 1 or 2 teaspoonfuls orally 3 or 4 times a day according to severity of symptoms
Regular Release Tablets: 1 or 2 tablets orally 3 or 4 times a day according to severity of symptoms
Extended release tablets: 1 tablet orally every 12 hours
- If indicated, 1 tablet orally every 8 hours

General:
- Atropine/hyoscyamine/phenobarbital/scopolamine has been classified as "possibly" effective by the FDA for use as adjunctive therapy in the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome (irritable colon, spastic colon, mucous colitis) and acute enterocolitis.
- It has not been shown conclusively whether anticholinergic/antispasmodic drugs aid in the healing of duodenal ulcer, decrease the rate of recurrences, or prevent complications.
Patient advice:
- Instruct patients not to increase their dose of this drug without consulting their physician.
- Instruct patients not to share this drug with others.
- This drug has a risk of physical and/or psychological dependence.
- This drug may impair mental and/or physical abilities needed for potentially hazardous tasks such as driving or operating machinery.
- Use of alcohol with this drug may cause additional central nervous system depressant effects.
- This drug may increase the risk of heatstroke because it decreases sweating.
- Avoid becoming overheated in hot weather, saunas, and during exercise or other strenuous activities.
- Patients should tell their healthcare provider if they take antihistamines, anti-seizure medications, medications for sleep or anxiety, narcotic pain relievers, or psychiatric medications.
