Comments:
- Pediatric patients are more susceptible to systemic toxicity due to proportionally greater absorption from a greater skin surface area to body weight ratio.
- Reversible hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis suppression, Cushing's syndrome manifestations, and intracranial hypertension have been reported in pediatric patients after systemic absorption of topically applied corticosteroids.
- Pediatric manifestations of adrenal suppression include linear growth hindrance, weight gain delayed, low plasma cortisol, and lack of response to ACTH stimulation.
- Limit use to the least amount compatible with effective therapy.
