Usual Adult Dose for Muscle Spasm

Extended-Release Tablets: 100 mg orally twice a day

Parenteral Injection: 60 mg IV or IM every 12 hours as needed

Use: As an adjunct to rest, physical therapy and other measures for the relief of discomfort associated with acute painful musculoskeletal conditions.

Elderly: Dose reduction should be considered, especially for patients with mental confusion

Precautions

CONTRAINDICATIONS:

  • Hypersensitivity to active substance or any product excipients
  • Glaucoma
  • Pyloric or duodenal obstruction
  • Stenosing peptic ulcers
  • Prostatic hypertrophy or obstruction of the bladder neck
  • Cardio-spasm (megaesophagus)
  • Myasthenia gravis

Safety and efficacy have not been established in patients younger than 18 years.

Administration advice:
Extended-release Tablets:

  • Swallow whole; do not crush or chew
  • Take orally twice a day, morning and evening

Injectable Therapy:
  • For IV and IM administration; do not administer subcutaneously

General:
  • This drug has been abused for its euphoric effects; mood elevating effects may occur at therapeutic doses.
  • The parenteral product contains sodium metabisulfite; this may cause allergic-type reactions in susceptible patients; asthmatic patients are more likely to be sulfite sensitive.

Monitoring:
  • Periodic monitoring of blood, urine, and liver function is recommended with prolonged use

Patient advice:
  • Patients should understand that this drug may impair their mental and/or physical abilities to perform hazardous tasks such as driving, and they should be counseled appropriately.
  • Patients should be instructed to speak with their healthcare provider if they are pregnant, intending to become pregnant or breastfeeding.
