Elderly patients with dementia-related psychosis treated with antipsychotic drugs are at an increased risk of death. Pimavanserin is not approved for the treatment of patients with dementia-related psychosis unrelated to the hallucinations and delusions associated with Parkinson's disease psychosis.
Serious side effects of Pimavanserin
Along with its needed effects, pimavanserin may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.
Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur while taking pimavanserin:
Incidence not known
- Chest pain, discomfort, or tightness
- fainting
- irregular or slow heart rate
- large, hive-like swelling on face, eyelids, lips, tongue, throat, hands, legs, feet, or genitals
- trouble breathing

- rapid weight gain
- unusual weight gain or loss
