Olodaterol / tiotropium Side Effects

Applies to olodaterol / tiotropium: inhalation spray.

Serious side effects

Along with its needed effects, olodaterol/tiotropium may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur while taking olodaterol / tiotropium:

More common

  • Chest pain
  • chills
  • cough
  • fever
  • sneezing
  • sore throat
  • trouble breathing
  • tightness in the chest

Less common

  • Bladder pain
  • blindness
  • bloody or cloudy urine
  • blurred vision
  • confusion
  • decrease in the frequency of urination
  • decreased vision
  • difficult, burning, or painful urination
  • difficulty in passing urine (dribbling)
  • dizziness
  • dry mouth
  • eye pain or discomfort
  • fainting
  • fast or irregular heartbeat
  • frequent urge to urinate
  • headache
  • hives, itching, or rash
  • hoarseness
  • increase in heart rate
  • irritation
  • joint pain, stiffness, or swelling
  • lightheadedness
  • large, hive-like swelling on the face, eyelids, lips, tongue, throat, hands, legs, feet, or genitals
  • lower back or side pain
  • nausea
  • nervousness
  • pounding in the ears
  • puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue
  • rapid breathing
  • redness of the skin
  • slow or fast heartbeat
  • sunken eyes
  • swelling of the eyelids, face, lips, hands, or feet
  • tearing
  • thirst
  • troubled swallowing
  • unusual tiredness or weakness
  • visual halos or colored images
  • vomiting
  • wrinkled skin

Other side effects

Some side effects of olodaterol / tiotropium may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects.

Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

Less common

  • Back pain
  • bleeding gums
  • bloody nose
  • creamy white, curd-like patches in the mouth or throat
  • difficulty having a bowel movement
  • difficulty with moving
  • dry skin
  • heartburn
  • irritation in the mouth
  • mouth ulcers
  • muscle pain or stiffness
  • pain in the joints
  • pain or tenderness around the eyes and cheekbones
  • pain when eating or swallowing
  • redness and swelling of the gums
  • redness, swelling, or soreness of the tongue
  • stuffy or runny nose
  • swelling or inflammation of the mouth
  • trouble sleeping
  • voice changes

Applies to olodaterol / tiotropium: inhalation aerosol.

General

The most common serious adverse reactions were COPD exacerbation and pneumonia.[Ref]

Respiratory

Common (1% to 10%): Nasopharyngitis, cough, epistaxis, pharyngitis, dysphonia, bronchospasm, laryngitis, sinusitis[Ref]

Cardiovascular

Common (1% to 10%): Atrial fibrillation, palpitations, supraventricular tachycardia[Ref]

Dermatologic

Common (1% to 10%): Rash, pruritus, angioneurotic edema, urticaria, skin infection, and skin ulcer, dry skin[Ref]

Gastrointestinal

Common (1% to 10%): Dry mouth, constipation, oropharyngeal candidiasis, dysphagia, gastroesophageal reflux disease, gingivitis, glossitis, stomatitis, intestinal obstruction including ileus paralytic[Ref]

Genitourinary

Common (1% to 10%): Urinary retention, dysuria, urinary tract infection

Hypersensitivity

Common (1% to 10%): Immediate hypersensitivity reactions[Ref]

Metabolic

Common (1% to 10%): Dehydration[Ref]

Musculoskeletal

Common (1% to 10%): Back pain, arthralgia, joint swelling[Ref]

Nervous system

Common (1% to 10%): Dizziness, insomnia[Ref]

Ocular

Common (1% to 10%): Glaucoma, increased intraocular pressure, blurred vision[Ref]
