Barium meal transit, or follow through, is a procedure used to evaluate the presence of disease in a person's small intestine. It involves the patient drinking a contrast medium containing Barium sulphate. X-ray images are taken at various time intervals, firstly of the esophagus, stomach and duodenum and then as the Barium moves through the small intestine.
