Other names: Orotic Aciduria
Hereditary orotic aciduria is a rare autosomal recessive disorder caused by a severe deficiency in the activity of the de novo pyrimidine pathway enzyme uridine 5'-monophosphate (UMP) synthase. The condition is characterized by retarded growth, anemia and excessive excretion of orotic acid in the urine.
