Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis, also called juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, is thought to be an autoimmune disease. The lining of the joint (called synovial membrane) becomes inflamed and enlarged, limiting movement and causing pain and tenderness. The onset occurs before age 16.
