Along with its needed effects, calcitriol topical (the active ingredient contained in Vectical) may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

- Blistering, crusting, irritation, itching, or reddening, or burning feeling of the skin
- confusion
- cracked, dry, scaly skin
- depression
- dry mouth
- headache
- incoherent speech
- increased urination
- loss of appetite
- metallic taste
- muscle weakness
- nausea
- stomach pain
- swelling
- unusual tiredness
- vomiting,
- weight loss
