Bimatoprost topical Side Effects

Warning

Follow all directions on your medicine label and package. Tell each of your healthcare providers about all your medical conditions, allergies, and all medicines you use.

Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficult breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Stop using this medicine and call your doctor at once if you have:

  • severe burning or itching of your eyes;

  • eye swelling, redness, severe discomfort, crusting or drainage (may be signs of infection);

  • vision problems, eye pain, seeing halos around lights;

  • increased sensitivity to light; or

  • feeling like something is in your eye.

Common side effects may include:

  • eye redness or itching; or

  • darkening of the skin around your eyes.

The most frequently reported adverse reactions were eye pruritus, conjunctival hyperemia, and skin hyperpigmentation.[Ref]

Frequency not reported: Allergic conjunctivitis, asthenopia, blepharitis, conjunctival edema, dry eye symptoms, cataract, conjunctival hyperemia, eye discharge, eye pain, eye pruritus, foreign body sensation, intraocular inflammation, iris hyperpigmentation, intraocular pressure effects, iritis, lid pigmentation, macular edema, ocular burning, ocular dryness, ocular irritation, photophobia, superficial punctate keratitis, visual disturbance

Postmarketing reports: Eye swelling, eyelid edema, eyelid sulcus deepening, lacrimation increased, vision blurred[Ref]

Dermatologic

Frequency not reported: Hair growth abnormal, hair growth outside the treatment area, periorbital erythema, skin hyperpigmentation

Postmarketing reports: Dry skin of the eyelid, dry skin of the periocular area, erythematous rash, lid changes, macular rash, madarosis, periorbital changes, periorbital skin discoloration, rash, temporary eyelash breakage, temporary loss of a few lashes, temporary loss of sections of eyelashes, trichorrhexis[Ref]
