Precautions

Miconazole-zinc oxide topical should be discontinued and the health care provider should be contacted if irritation occurs or the condition worsens.

Miconazole-zinc oxide topical should not be used as a substitute for frequent diaper changes or to prevent diaper dermatitis. Preventative use may result in the development of drug resistance. Treatment should not continue for longer than 7 days.

Safety and effectiveness of miconazole-zinc oxide topical ointment have not been established in incontinent adult patients or in immunocompromised patients.

Effectiveness has not been established in pediatric patients less than 4 weeks of age (premature or term). Safety and effectiveness have not been established in very-low-birth-weight infants.

A thin layer of miconazole-zinc oxide topical ointment should be gently applied to clean, dry skin in the diaper area using the fingertips. Miconazole-zinc oxide topical ointment should not be rubbed into the skin, and hands should be thoroughly washed after applying.

Treatment should continue for the full 7 days, even if improvement is observed. Miconazole-zinc oxide topical should be part of a treatment regimen that includes gentle cleansing of the diaper area and frequent diaper changes.

Miconazole-zinc oxide topical is only intended for topical use (not for oral, ophthalmic, or intravaginal use).
