Hyperkalemic Periodic Paralysis is a rare autosomal disorder that is characterised by muscle weakness or paralysis that is triggered by an increase in serum potassium. This is due to mutations in the sodium channels in the muscle in conjunction with other factors such as eating potassium rich food, stress, rest after exercise, fatigue, fasting or weather changes.
