Summary of Use during Lactation

No information is available on the use of ferumoxytol during breastfeeding; however, the drug has been given safely to neonates intravenously as a magnetic resonance contrast agent.[1] An alternate intravenous iron product with more published data on breastfeeding available may be preferred. Pasteurization of milk by the Holder method reduces the concentration of iron in milk by about 6.5%.[2]
