Usual Adult Dose for Carcinoid Tumor

250 mg orally 3 times a day

Comments:

  • Patients should take this drug with food.
  • If needed, short-acting octreotide should be given at least 30 minutes after administration of this drug.

Use: Treatment of carcinoid syndrome diarrhea in combination with somatostatin analog (SSA) therapy in patients whose diarrhea is inadequately controlled by SSA therapy

Administration advice:

  • Treatment should be taken with food.
  • Patients who miss a dose should take the next dose at the regular time; taking 2 doses at the same time should be avoided.

Monitoring:
  • GASTROINTESTINAL: Signs/symptoms of severe constipation
  • HEPATIC: Liver function tests, especially in patients with liver dysfunction
  • PSYCHIATRIC: Signs/symptoms of depression

Patient advice:
  • Patients should be told to immediately report signs/symptoms of new/worsening depression, severe constipation, or worsening abdominal pain.
  • Inform patients that this drug may cause fatigue, and they should avoid driving or operating machinery if these side effects occur.
  • Advise patients to speak to their healthcare provider if they become pregnant, intend to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding.
